100 year old WALNUT TABLE>>> An amazing new look !

100 year old WALNUT TABLE>>> An amazing new look !

I will show you all the products i used to achieve this look and i will list them with links at the bottom of the post/

This walnut table , very much loved by its owner ,was dropped in store for a new look. The customer wanted to be able to take the table out from the corner and allow it to be shown off again. Was this possible she asked. It has been around a long time and it very tired looking. It is possible to make it SHINE again ?

Of course it was possible. Any piece of good quality like this can be given a whole new lease of life under the right hands.  YEP !! this is the same table …

For those of you who paint for profit, don’t you feel a huge sense of responsibility when taking a piece like this in ?

I certainly do and i was going to ensure that by the time i was finished,  it looked better than it ever did.

First off we decided on a colour .

This was to be a light cream Linen Milk Paint Click here to see the paint and then she wanted a dark stained top as the top was the worst bit of the table. But she still wanted to be able to see the beautiful grain.

The painting was easy as it always is with this self leveling self sealing paint. Within a couple of  hours it looked like i had sprayed the legs. You really have to try this paint if you love upcycling. It makes life SO much easier.

The staining was another matter. I tried two different shades of water based stain and although beautiful they did not cover the table sufficiently and the top still looked very discolored !  They looked nice from the side as you can see from the photo above but not the top

So i went back to the old reliable GEL STAIN in Antique Walnut… (This is discontinued in Europe so if you want this product,  you need to get it quick, as i only have a few tins left. ) . click here for the gel stain

This stain is incredible and you can see what two coats wiped on with a sponge brush did .. Its not sealed yet, so that’s why the stain still looks very matt.

Then i added the latex bendable moulding. This is the one thing that changed the piece completely. These moulding strips come in varies styles , thin, thick and all are around 4 ft long  ! Click here to see the range of bendable mouldings.

The moulding i used on this one was the T70.

Then i painted it while on the piece and highlighted with two things. …using my finger. Gold leaf rub n buff and Enchanted Gold Gilding Wax.

The sheen on the top of the table was achieved using HIGH PERFORMANCE TOP COAT IN GLOSS. click here for top coat in different finishes

You can see the finished table in the video testimonial from the customer below.
